electrical problems when starting.

Hey all. My 92 100s has been having some on and off electrical problems over the last couple months. When I turn the key, sometimes the lights on the dash do not light up prior to starting. If they do not light up then the car will not start, only turn over. If the dash lights light up upon turning the key then the car starts with no problem. And, again, it is an on and off problem. It will go a couple weeks without having any startup problems and then come back again. Also there is another piece of info that may or may not help in figuring out the problem. I have an aftermarket car starter. This also is not working right now. When I push the buttons it will turn the power to the car on but when it comes time to trigger the start up, it just shuts off. I believe this is just a relay in the starter. But when I am having problems with the regular startup, if I use the remote starter to initiate the power on process first, then when the dash lights come on turn the key, car starts. Any ideas???
