Default Exhaust manifold compatibility ("California models"...?)

The new engine for the '96 A6 has the secondary air injection stuff on it and the original engine doesn't. Browsing through ETKA it appears that there are separate part numbers for the cylinder head, the exhaust manifold, and the exhaust manifold gasket depending on whether there is air injection (Cali only for '96?) or not.

I am not sure whether to use the old exhaust manifolds without the air ports or use the newer ones and plug the ports. (I do want to remove the air valves, since I don't want to replumb the vacuum accumulator, etc.)

Will I have problems with the non-air gasket, an air manifold, and an air cylinder head? How about a non-air gasket, a non-air manifold, and an air head?

I haven't taken the manifolds off yet -- in fact I'd prefer not to, except when I heard this engine run at the recyclers it sounded like there was an exhaust leak somewhere so I want to replace the gaskets.
