front passenger speaker doesn't work but makes noise
I had to disconnect the front passenger speaker. All speakers work fine, except that one. When I turn the radio on, it makes a loud static noise, although the other speakers are playing the music just fine.
When I turn the radio off, the speaker stops making noise. So it appears that the power is getting through to it, but what could possibly be wrong?
Thanks for the help.

If its a bose system then.....
you probably have a blown amplifier. The front doors each have their own amp, and when the amps dies, you get the situation you described above. If its not a bose system, then i don't know.

Yes, it is BOSE system
Just some additional information. I bought 2 new speakers, JBL 4". I thought the problem was blown speaker. Replaced the driver's side by simply butchering the original Bose unit out. I had no idea it had amplifiers in the doors, so it turns out that the speaker I have there is running through the amplifier? Is this a bad thing? The speakers are 4", model gto426, and they're 105 watts.
I changed the passenger speaker, same results. Static noise.
So all evidence points out to blown amp?
Is it OK to run those speakers through BOSE amps? Or should I run them directly, bypassing the amps? Ideally I would like to replace the head unit, but that's not in the foreseeable future.

The problem is that the amp puts out a resistance of ~1ohm
and the speakers you bought are prolly 4ohm or 8ohm. Volumes will all be screwed up. I don't *think* any harm will come to those innocent little speakers, but I don't really know.
Both my front speakers have done this exact noise. I've ended up just unplugging the front right speaker. The front left just acts up rarely. Someday I'll pull the amp out and inspect it as I think there is a broken capacitor or diode. A quick fix would be a one dollar part from Hatey-o Snack.
