fuel gauge problem

I removed my instrument cluster today to fix the annoying beepy thing that announced every few seconds that my brake lights were out. I followed the directions at 12v.org and after two tries at resoldering the bad joints I seem to have cured the f------ beeper. While I was there I replaced a few bulbs (wish I had ordered more of the orange base ones). Unfortunately, I now see that my fuel gauge has stopped working. I think it may have something to do with the switch at the top right hand corner of the pc board (#3 on attached picture). I remember looking at it when the board was out and seeing that one side was labeled diesel and the other benzine. Do you think this could be it?

I don't think so
the guage just slides into the circuit board ao make sure its seated properly and that the solder joints around it and intact.
it may also be the sender in the fuel tank..

one step forward, two steps back
I think this is another case of one step forward, two steps back. The brake light out/beepy thing seems to be cured, but I can't get the gauge to work anymore. It looks like one of the resistors (at least that is what I think it is) on the gauge circuitry is scorched. If I knew what it was, I could try soldering in a replacement, or maybe I should just find another cluster.
In any event, thanks for the advice. I'll try again next weekend. At the very least, I am getting much better at removing the cluster. The first time took me about a half hour. Now it takes about 5 minutes.

Water temp gauge also out...
Thanks, I think it is on the back side of the cluster on the flip side of where the fuel gauge is. I need to pull the cluster again next weekend to make sure. However, I noticed this morning that the water temperature gauge is also not working, so maybe the scorch marks have nothing to do with the problem. The oil temp gauge is fine. Maybe I damaged something when I was resoldering the PC board that runs the autocheck feature or maybe I broke a harness wire when unplugging the cluster? Fortunately, the car is driveable, I just remember to fill up with gas every 200 miles and check the oil temp gauge to make sure I am not burning up.
