Headlight Upgrades?
Hey All!
I have 1996 A6 Quattro. By today's standards, the headlights are "dim". I'm looking for an HID upgrade kit. Any recommendations - which ones to buy, which ones NOT to buy?
Ideally I'd LOVE to put some projection HID lights on the car, but haven't seen anything for that - yet! ; >
Thanks!

I bought an H.I.D. kit off Ebay for like 50.00 bucks, 8000k with ballasts and easy plug and play installation for my 1996 A6 Q. The polarity was reversed so the plug actually mounted backward to the ballast, but they worked fine. Had them for over a year without any issues, mount the ballasts in a spot with low vibration or pad them well so they don't knock around. Don't go over 8000k it looks too purple. The 6000-8000k range is a white light that works very well as low beams, with a slight blue H.I.D. flash....hope that helps

^8K is not white, sir. Thats super bluish already.
Go with 5K-6K. I have 6K at the moment and I'm happy with turn out. They surely start out a bit bluish but once the temperature reaches the point it becomes nice white. eBay is the place to buy it.

I was thinking all I would do is buy those new silverlight bulbs that are brighter and whiter...I didnt know that to improve the headlights might mean a ballast and install??/ What benefit will just a bulb upgrade give?

To me its just as any stock bulb. When I was new to Audi I didn't even know at that time what HID's meant so I went to some local carparts store and bought silverlight bulbs thinking thats what I need to make them clear white. i then installed them and that where my big LOL came, it was still yellow. Only after returning, the guys told me that I would need an HID kit if I want a clear white headlights.
