Default How difficult?

I need to replace my driverside axle because one of the boots has been exposed for a while. I also plan on doing the control arms and tie rod ends.. How difficult is this going to be and what special things should i know before going into this. I know I need the special tools for getting the axle off.
I read the write up on the axle removal, I just have one question on that. How was the transmission moved over? Like it says in the writeup.

Would it be simpler to just purchase the bushings instead of replacing the whole assembly?

Default Sort of a big job due to the assemblies you're working with.

You may not need to replace that axle. A new boot, cleaning and repacking it might work fine.....unless you're hearing noise going around corners or feeling a thudding.

There are crush sleeves and stretch bolts that hold the lower control arms to the subframe. Replace them as it says in your manual.

Special tools?
The bit for taking out the CV joint bolts
The big socket for the axle nut
A big beaker bar for loosening said nut
A ball joint puller (not a pickle fork)
A 3' long pry bar from the hardward store

As mentioned unless the joint is damaged just clean and recover it.

Not sure why you would need to move the trans axle. You can usually turn the stub enough by removing the tie rod end, or pull the entire hub assembly out further by removing the lower ball joint.

You may want to look into doing the big bushing(s) on the lower arm while you have it all apart.

its not to hard of a job.. jsut make sure you get the tripple square bit to take the bolts out.. i didnt have one at the time and used a regular allen bit, it worked but i stripped a couple of the really tight ones.

its actually a quiet simple job. loosed the bolt at the end of the axel then pop the wheel off and take the rest of the bolts out. i had to drop one of the lower bolts to get the axel out, but i was not difficult

Default If you mess up the heads on the 3-sqr bolts I've found good grade 8 replacements at

my local Ace hardware...and sometimes Lowes, depending on the thread pitch. They tend to be the "internal allen head" cap bolts, but that's better, IMHO, than leaving a landmine for the next time you do the job.
