Default i asked the same a few weeks back

never got an answer. From the new kit i received you remove a c clip and pull the joint off. The band on the boot is already on the boot so you do not need the crimp tool like the outers.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2860341.phtml</a

Thanks! Can you point me to which boot kit I need? ECS has two different outer kits listed?

Default you need a 12 point hex socket, kinda a pain ..

basically jack the front wheel up and remove, you need a 17mm allen "sears $10" and a breaker bar / piece of pipe
have a friend hold the brakes and crack the allen loose "center of rotor"

,remove the top control arm bolt that holds the 2 top arms on "these can be rusted and stubborn/ pb blaster / wd40 the whole bolt real good before" tap the arms up and out , loosen the 2 tie rod end bolts , tap it up and out, slide the spindle forward to get more room to the inner cv.

then get a long extension and the 12 point socket you need for the inner bolts "stfa for size" tap the socket fully seated on each bolt and crack em loose, 6 of em i think, best way is to turn the axle and access the bolts from the bottom side of the axle , then wiggle and cuss, bend/slide the front of the axle out the way of the spindle and out..

hope this helps some..

Default Questions for "kelbrig1" - Where did you get your wheels?

I have an 02 S4 black on black and i really like the look you have. Also, where is a good place to get the OEM S4 silver mirror caps?

Default Ha thanks, but I just needed to know if there was anything special you need to know about

actually replacing the boot on the axle once it is out. I've been through all that stuff already...pulled the motor 3 times, tranny, and replaced both outer boots, just never an inner. PS, for those that don't know, the inner bolts are 10mm triple square head bolts.

You can drop the half out out the bottom of the car and don't need to undo the CAs
