Instrument cluster and heater control bulbs
Hello all! I'm planning to replace some or all of the dash bulbs and the heater control bulbs in my '98 Avant. I've read several posts and understand how to remove the panel and heater controls, in fact I did a test run yesterday to count the bulbs. What I found baffled me a little bit. I was surprised by the variety of colors and wattages of the bulb holders. I've been searching for hours and can't seem to find all of them. I've found the orange 1.1w ones which will take care of the instrument illumination, but where the heck do you get the black 1.2w , blue1.2w, tan 1.5w, "mint" green 2w, and aqua .9w ones? Also, since I already have a 10-pack of the 1.2w wedge bulbs without sockets, are the bulbs supposed to come out of the sockets? I tried and shattered one, bummer. Thanks for any and all advice!

All of the IC bulbs come mounted in their colored base, which is how you ID the wattage. To replace one of these socket bulbs, you need replace with the same bulb. I would not recommend increasing the wattage of any of the bulbs because that would increase the amps in the circuit, which may cause a circuit failure in the long run. Try www.autohausaz.com for the bulbs you need.

AutohausAz does have the "mint" 2w and the orange 1.1w (theirs are black) and the price is great. I am slowly finding the others except for the aqua .9w for the heater control. Finding them for less than $10 per bulb is the hard part. On a side note, has anybody used LEDs? superbrightleds.com has a variety of bases available and they look like they'll fit. Just not sure the wattage would be right.
