Default just a bought a 1993 100CS Quattro (auto)

just wanted to drop by and say Hello

I've missed owning a Quattro for many years (1st was an older 4000cs Quattro) and saw a well maintained (have service paper work from around 80k miles) 100cs with 149k miles. She seems to drive and run great. But I have a couple of questions (I did read the FAQ)

* how long should it take for the heat to come from the footwell. I know the system waits till engine coolant is warm 1st. but it comes only from the windshield/console for about 10-15 minutes? I have an auto climate. In CT it has been in the -6 to 10 F area so that might have something to do with it.

* how smooth is our V6 while in P or D when the car is not in motion? It has a little bit of a rough loop to it. Not that much worse of a feeling then my 2002 Mits Eclipse GT :-)

* the cruise control only function some of the time? is it still mostly a vacum based system, if so I bet it has to do with the cold

* is thier a VIN number look up tool to show what options your car really has? I think mine has headlight washers -- but they don't work with the lights on?

Thank Again in Advance

John

Default 1. On AUTO takes several minutes until the coolant reaches your set temperature and even after that

the main air flow is diverted to the windshield. If you want more air to the foot well, press the down arrow and increase the fan speed (+); the heater goes on manual mode and keeps your setting no matter what.
2. The idle should be smooth, around (or little below) the first line under 1000 rpm mark. The ISV might need cleaning. Check the air filter too.

Should blow heat within 5 minutes

Should idle smoothly in P or D

Sometimes the cruise doesen't work if it hasn't been used for awhile. Something is sticking - I kept trying mine and finally it started working like it should

Headlight washers should work with headlights on, engaging washer stalk for a few seconds

thanks guys....

yeah the car heats up in about a momment or two - but it seems to take a long time for the air flow to move to the foot wells (even if I press the manual down arrow) ?????????

the engine seems to run very smooth while in motion????

i guess the headlight washers don't work :-( (no biggie)

the cruise did stay on for a moment or two so I'll give it a go again (once again no biggie)

but I do know - QUATTRO system in the snow is PERFECT

and the shop where I bought the car has done alot of repairs/maintence items iver the last few years (the last major job was 40k miles ago - timing belt, pumps and other items totaling around $1900) and the tranny was serviced (I assume oil and filter - does it have a filter?)

thanka again in advance
John
