Default More on "Won't Start" ...ignition switch???

96 A6 Avant Q - So, while I'm waiting for my VAG-COM kit to arrive, I'm doing some reading. CVTech said it could be the ignition switch. I still have the original switch in the car. It has been giving my wife problems for quite a while now. The car would always start but just wouldn't return back to the "Run" position. My wife knew that if the climate control etc. didn't work she would just crank the key back a little bit to the run position. So now, one morning it's dead. I read the ignition switch FAQ here: https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/51822.phtml and it says non-starting could be ignition switch. Will the VAG-COM tell me whether it's the switch?? Should I just go ahead and replace the switch anyway and diagnose from there?

Default I'd start by replacing the switch... esp if you already are aware of it being bad...

Dunno if VAG will diagnose a faulty ignition switch or not. I'd say no though.

Rather than wait around for the VAG, I'd replace the ignition switch. Takes 30 minutes or less, is something that from the sound of it has to be done anyway, and will in all probability solve your problem.

VAG-COM only reads ECM, TCM, & other sensors, won't tell you a thing about the ignition switch.

It's ridiculous not to put a switch in this car! They're $30 and take maybe 30min.
