New Audi 100S
Just bought a 1992 100S with 140k on it. Great car. No rust, pearlescent white in color and fully loaded. However, a couple of things that I was wondering if anyone had any fixes/comments on:
1. Power steering is funky after car warms up (about 20-30 minutes of driving). Instead of a nice smooth feel, it gets kind of choppy. Very strange.
2. Slight hesitation when cold. Could probably be a ton of things, but I wasn't sure if anybody had a quick list of things to check.
3. Definite ticking noise on cold start. Goes away after about 10-15 seconds. Bad lifters?
4. Upper left quadrant of center consol light out. Anyone have a replacement procedure or bulb part number?
5. Missing driver side headlamp washer cover. Makes an otherwise cool looking car look like it has a missing front tooth. I have looked all other the internet for this, but with no luck.
Hope anyone can help me out with even one of these issues? Cool website!

Re: New Audi 100S
1) A few people here have had bad racks... haven't heard of the symptoms you describe. Maybe one of the resident mechanics can relate. =)
2) Spark plugs? Ignition wires?
3) Oil non-return valves, not the actual lifters. Very common problem.
4) I have them both at work... beep-beep has posted the procedure online, to replace a burned out bulb inside of a gauge... say, the outside temp or gear shift selector. In your case, it's just a bulb.
5) Dealers will have that part... maybe $20-$30.

Re: Hmm, I don't know. Would have to get a quote... maybe 2-3 hours labor plus parts?
Alldata says 2.8 hours for the manifold/gasket and I would add .5+ hours for the valve replacement. The gaskets are about $40.00 list. I do not know the price on the oil return valves
