New (to me) 95 A6 (Long)
I found myself in sudden need of transportation after my 1994 Taurus SHO 5-Speed was totalled by a police car(!). I had always intended to replace it with a 1999 A8 when the time came, but, since getting laid off from the job that would have allowed me to afford (as opposed to BUY) an A8, I had to lower my sights.
My fiancee found a nearly pristine pearl 1995 A6 quattro Automatic for me at AutoSport in Williston, Vermont. It has 107K on it, but you couldn't tell. I bought it, and am very happy with it, even though it is, shall we say, SLOW. Its performance envelope is far smaller than the SHO's, whether accelerating or cornering (possibly not the A6's fault - it has Cooper H rated all-seasons on it), but - the A6 feels much better . I suppose that Audi has better fit, finish, and feel than Ford is not a news flash. Of course, I look forward to winter in it. I travel regularly between NYC and Vermont and will appreciate quattro. The car is VERY comfortable on long trips.
Negatives: The Bose stereo is fairy awful. Oh, well. Highway gas milage is around 22 mpg, and, in traffic, I have attained 11 mpg!
Some nice things about AutoSport - they price their cars fairly and back them to the hilt. They told me what needed work on the car before I bought it, and included the work in the price. This involved some significant stuff, like the 90K timing belt / water pump service.
They know their Audis and can find good ones to sell.
Now, how can I make this car achieve "moderately slow" and improve gas milage a bit?

do the belt now before you drive around and then have a marriage between pistons and valves

the 90K timing belt should be done between 60-90K to be on the safe side. the audi i am driving had 119K on it when i bought it and the tbelt hadnt been changed... better be safe than sorry!

You can swap the airbox for a cone filter, do a throttle body mod, and, well, there isn't much else.
12v performance isn't really out there. Be happy you live in the northeast where they perform as they should. While I bought my cars when I lived in NY, I have since moved in AZ (2,000' and 100+ every day from June-September) and can say that the cars are now almost dangerously slow. In the east, the temps are low and the altitude is kind, so they breathe much better.
In any event, enjoy the new-to-you car!

Check the throttle flap is opening fully and that the .....
vacuum operated secondary flap is operational. This opens a shorter path in the inlet tract thus providing a bit more go over 2500rpm.

IMHO, your gas mileage should be better (I get 20 town & 26 highway). You might.....
....want to have some check-ups on your fuel and ignition systems (others in this Forum can be more specific) by (preferably) a good independant European car shop, or your Audi dealer. Or is it just because of the way you drive? And, by all means, have your T-belt (etc.) changed (unless you have records that show it was done, no more than (say) 50K miles ago). Search the Forum for more info on T-belts, etc.
Anyway, enjoy your "new" Audi, and welcome to the Forum.

Re: do the belt now before you drive around and then have a marriage between pistons and valves
Sorry I didn't make myself clear. AutoSport included the timing belt/water pump/90K service with the car, and they have already done the work. Thanks for the warning, though! People should not drive interference engines beyond recommended belt change intervals!
