Default radiator fan air conditioner compressor problem

Here's what I've got. Upon start up, when cool, a/c blows cold and right side rad fan is operating. As coolant temp warms up, a/c compressor cuts out as does the working rad fan (at about the same time). now H2O high temp idiot light comes on blinking. through it all left side rad fan is silent.

Suggestions?

Default Re: radiator fan air conditioner compressor problem

Possible scenario:-

Coolant heating to point 2nd rad is required with a/c load.

Fan is not working (wiring, switch or fan motor), so coolant continues to heat until a critical preset that turns the a/c off to reduce the heat load, (and with it the fan related to the a/c)

Default I'm going to guess a failed relay or relay(s)

I don't have a manual yet, so I can't take a look at the current flow diagrams...and I'm certain they are insane. Anyway, it looks like all the relays are there in the fuse box up in the fresh are cowl, left side.

Just fired mine up and turned on the A/C. Both fans were running with the compressor engaged. If each fan has it's on relay, you may just have a bad relay for the inop fan. Switch the relays if they are the same and see if that makes the bad fan work, and the good fan inop.

That'll at least get you going.

Default Both radiator fans must work for the A/C to work...

I had a similar issue which turned out to be the driver's side fan to be bad. I was able to verify this by tapping on the fan that didn't work with a small hammer which caused it to begin working for a few minutes.

I believe that both fans are connected in parallel so that both fans are either on or off.
