Default radio install - separate brown connector?

Just replaced my head unit (thanks, edigreg) and when I removed the existing one I noticed a connection that looked (can't be sure) to be unconnected. I don't have the CD changer, and the unconnected wire was a brown push-in type that connects to a lone bare metal tab separate from the rest of the connectors and the antenna.

Anyone know what it's for and if it would have made any difference in the operation of the old head unit.

Default Looks like a ground...It could have affected the sound quality if that is the case...

Best way to tell is pop the old one back in with the wire secured and see if it fixes your problem. I don't ever remember seeing that wire on my old radio, or on my current one.

Glad I could help...hopefully you didn't get the new unit for nothing.

It is a ground, but I've never tried to operate a radio w/o it connected.

Default Agree...that's the ground wire...

I had a grounding problem when I installed a Concert I in my 97 A6. Solved it by reseating the FM antenna wire where it plugs into the back. That wire must also provide ground.

Thanks for the responses. I'll do some testing with and without the ground to see what difference it makes. (EDIGREG, I replaced the head unit for a separate static/volume **** issue which is now thankfully solved.)

Default Alarm trigger.

That wire on the older gamma cc radio's goes to V94, the central locking /alarm system control module..It provides a ground loop which if broken will set the alarm off.
on the newer radios its integrated into the black power harness..
