Rear shock mounting question
Am replacing the struts and shocks on a 97 A6 wagon with Bilstein/Eibachs. Fronts are done, rears have been removed and the new springs and shocks are assembled and ready to go in. However, it seems I need to move the control arm/axle down or compress the entire shock assembly upwards in order to align and push in the lower shock bolt after I mount the top of the rear assembly. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Is there a tried and true method?

Here is what I did:
.Get the entire assembly mounted to the body (top end)
.Get into the wheelwell
.with your back against the top/side of the fender, push the control arm and hub down
.have a friend put the bottom bolt in

Does a 5000 quattro rear strut come as an insert or is it an entire shock with the bushing attached.
