In My home Country (Uruguay - Southern South America) this is the VW Passat. The did it just like that until 1989. In 1985 they upgrade the headlight with the 4000 ones. Always made in brasil.

In the 80s and early 90s the 80% of the taxies in my country will be this car with a Diesel Engine.

My older brother had an 1981 a few years ago and it was a very comfortable car compared to the new ones of course. 4 cyl 1.6 engine and the major complaint was the gas mileage... Not very fuel efficient for our standards there...

http://www.fourtitude.com/gallery/gallery1.php#</a

Default My very first brand new car was a '76 VW Dasher hatchback, which is the same as this one...

w/o the rear doors. After owning two British cars (don't go there!), the German car was a huge improvement. Had the VW until I sold it in 1982 when I pruchased my first Audi, a '81 4000 5+5.
