Transmission service cost

Transmission service cost
I just took the A6 to the dealer to fix the non-working rear door, (another story), and I casually asked about a transmission service/fluid change. They want $360 for my quattro, is this the norm? They also want $400 for the timing belt replacement. I'm still reeling from the $140 to tell me I need a latch cable on the door and to replace the console shift lightbulb and that did not include fixing the damn door!

Re: Transmission service cost
My local Audi dealer wants $270 for the trans service. watch the price on the timing belt from the dealer, they usually want $700-900 when replacing the correct items. The independant shop I go to gets $300 for the T belt,T stat,W pump, tensioner & accessory belt. I would expect a $150-175 bill on the trans service from an independant.

Yup, the dealer price is about right. I was quoted ~$250 for a non-quattro tranny, but I had...
it done by a independent shop for approximately half the dealer price. One reason for the high dealer price is they have to use the specified VAG tools, which are expensive, for the service. If they are changing ONLY the timing belt, then the $400 price is probably correct. However, it's too low to do everything - WP, tensioner, idler, thermo, etc., IMO.
