Trouble pulling codes
I've got a 1997 A6 Quattro, and I'm having problems pulling codes so I can get it inspected for emissions. The monitors aren't showing like they should, and keep resetting at random (at least that's what the shop told me). My normal mechanic couldn't even diagnose it, so they told me to take it to a specialist. Anybody have an idea of what I'm up against here?

What type of scanner are you using? Which of the monitors is incomplete. If the EGR monitor is incomplete and there are no EGR error codes, then there may be carbon blocking the EGR valve passage and carbon fouling the EGR temperature sensor.
After any error codes are deleted using a scan tool it may take some driving before the all of the monitors wiil again be completely reset.
So, you will need to drive the car to reset the monitors and then use a scanner to find out which monitors have not reset.
When a monitor will not reset after driving at various speeds for several days of normal driving, then there could be something wrong even if you are getting no error codes.
