Two turns with the key to open driver side door

It is an A6 Q SW '96. Driver side door doesn't open unless I twist the key twice quickly which opens all doors and the trunk. First twist used to open driver side door. Now first twist turns the inside light on but nothing else. I still can unlock/lock from the passenger side and the trunk as before. I can't make sense out of it. I did searched and read anything to do with the door lock but couldn't find similar to my problem.
Thanks for any pointers and suggestions what to check.

the reason it only unlocks with all doors is because the vac pump is pushing the **** up.
on my car there was another small link that attached to the lock tumbler which pushed the **** up with the key..
maybe it broke off or it's just loose... either way you have to remove the door panel to check it out
