Folks,

My cats are rattling again. Earlier (~40K miles ago) they were replaced under the emmissions warranty.

Should I go for universal cats instead of direct fit? Anybody have this done in the Seattle area? Anything I need to tell the shop or look-out-for when I take it in to a shop to get it welded in?

Mighty grateful for any replies. I'll compile responses and post it in our FAQ...

I just replaced both of my cats. Easy job, no welding required. I got mine from autopartswarehouse.com for $270 apiece, cheapest I could find. They come with the pipes and flanges already welded on so it's a two wrench job.
Best part is, no more rattling!

who replaced them? audi? the replacements should have some kind of garantee. i'd go back to where they were done.

.. is what the exhaust guys call this. If your car runs too lean this is the result. If it runs too rich the cats will plug. A shop usually won't replace unless you've had a diagnostic done to show that neither condition exists.

I had mine replaced (at a Midas, though I wouldn't recommend this) with universals at 140,000 miles. Still fine at 265.

Get them rebuilt by Brown Recyling.
