Default Well, my caliper bolt is officially striped.I'm gonna try 2 more things before I take it to a shop

Anybody think either of these will work?

First I'm going to try and super glue the socket to the bolt. (Don't Laugh, I'm desperate) If that doesn't work, I'm going to attempt to hammer a SAE (Standard) soket over the metric bolt. I figure being slightly smaller, (if I can manage to hammer it on) it might give me enough grip to break it. (Anyone tried either of these technics?) If I would have only turned the friggin wheel like Brdman* reminded me, I wouldn't be in this ****.

Default You can buy striped bolt removal kits I believe

Or, maybe you could take a Dremel tool and try to copy the shape of a smaller socket to fit it.

Also vice grip might work.

The very last thing I would try though is the bolt removal kit and if that doesn't work cut the head of the bolt off.

Apply ALOT of heat to the bolt before you try to loosen it with what ever method you choose.

Oh and I don't think glue will cut it if it was tight enough to strip in the first place.

Default Why don't you try to turn it with a chisel?

Picture is a drain plug, but shows the correct angle:

Try one more thing first. It's called an EZ-Out. It's a reverse threaded bit that you have to pre-drill the center of the existing bolt in order to use. Any hardware store carries these, and may be under a different name.

Very handy to have in the toolkit too, wife factor < 5. You can pull screws out of the wall when she's finished obliterating them.
