Default You don't want to install used parts or part of the wrong car for a problem like this.

The new switch at the dealer is the only way to go.

Default OK...the ignition switch was kinda broken...

the tip that goes into the back of the key lock was cracked from the spring inside. I took off that white cap and noticed the internal center piece was crooked and one contact was stuck under the center spining thing. So i took the one out of a UrS that i have and it was still good, but i had to beat on one of the wings, since the screw was stripped/not moving. SO then i made sure they were the same, they were, except for thier internals, that spining part that moves the contacts up and down. So i swapped everything put it back to geather as i would have seen fit. BUt no i get no check engine light, but now im getting a readyness error talking about the K-line, ignition not on, wrong data port, those things. NOw im pretty sure i put the internal spin pices the right way b/c it onoy goes one way when matched up to the key mechanism area and the lower contact parts. So no what the hell is wrong?? THanks guys a ton

VAG is working same code coming up, but the ignition is smoother so it was kinda messed up but if the real problem, no clue. Going to go for a drive later at night to see if the light will stay off. ANd tomorrow ill play with the ECM and what not, i hope i dont have to go hunting for wires now for the three S's

Like I said, install a new switch, otherwise you're wasting your time.

Default ehh, it was broken, but that was not the problem...

took back the carpet under the dash on pass side, and yup...water damage. The B connecter which is red was corroded and several of the contacts were to, but mainly the Red power wire was totally corroded from its gold finger on the ECM where it corroded enough to fully separate from the ECM. Junk yard tomorrow to grab one out of a 1997 A6 avant...hopefully its wires/contacts are good. Going to take one of the 5 blank clips that are inside the Red connecter and resplice one to the Red wire so that i don't have to go splicing and replacing a ton of wire.
