Wheel Offset
I have a 1997 Audi A6 Avant that came with 16 inch x 7 wheels with 45mm offset. I found a set of 16 inch by 7 wheels with a 37mm offset. I want to put snow tires on the 37mm offset wheels. Two questions: Will the 37mm fit on my car? Also, if they fit, what size snow tire would you recommend.

Offset should not be such a degree you have any rubbing or can't clear the calipers but you might want to check to make sure before you buy tires.
As for tires I have stock rims and run 205/55R16's for snows although you could downgrade to 195/55 for a smaller footprint.
