I don't see the problem...? It is not THAT easy to cross thread the bleed screw. Mine went in effortlessly every time with a 3/8" ratchet. Of course you back it up a turn or two before you tighten it carefully with hand tools. Edit: what do you think of the plastic bleed screw by the heater core... now that one is easy to mess up....

I've never x-threaded any screws but you can turn them by hand first.

The plastic screw at the rad, last I recall you don't have to remove it but just turn it a few times to open the spigot.

I bought a new screw as the original is crusty so it's probably worse on the inside. It's tapered so cross threading is probably fairly difficult.

Course they could had the threading cast lower in the block to catch more gunk and make it easier to get to.
