I don't think there is a coolant drain plug on the block. I have a 2.7L, so possibly things are different for the 4.2L.

Heck, The radiator on my car doesn't even have a coolant drain plug. Must always pull the lower hose to drain the coolant.

The 2.7 does have a drain plug but it is is a PITA to get at, you need a rounded hex bit to hit it and most likely it will be so corroded inside the engine there is a strong chance it wont come out. The plug on the 2.7 is up under the frame toward the pass side if I remember correctly, when I did my coolant on my 2.7 I didn't have a hex that could get in to the plug so I didn't even try to get mine out.

as far as the 4.2 I have only have mine for a month and a half and haven't looked for it yet. But it is up on jack stands still, If I have time while under it wrapping up the trans fluid etc this evening I will see if I can spot the drain plug.

actually like usual google really is your friend in not even 5 minutes I found this... http://www.cpp.edu/~bvnorum/ebahn/c5...drain_fill.pdf I searched "audi c5 4.2 coolant drain plug" and it was the 1st result.

One comment....expect it to be a PITA to get all of the air out. My heater wasn't working after I did a flush and I burped air out for days before it finally started heating.

But mine is a 2.7T, so maybe others are different.

With the 2.7 if you follow the directions, and partially remove the heater core line with the hole in it and file the coolant system until coolant comes out the hole in that line, then properly seat that line, then loosen the bleed valve behind the power steering pump until it weeps coolant you shouldn't have much if any air in the system (I had to do it twice due to not realizing I put a hole in my radiator while doing a TB job and then replacing the radiator ) I plan on doing coolant in my S6 very soon and I am assuming the process will be very similar but I will hunt around a make sure I know how to properly do it before start

Yup...sounds easy, but no heat....more air...no heat...on and on 'till FINALLY heat. Just sayin'. I've read about raising the reservoir, etc, but it's still a pain.

Thus is the article I followed and had 100% no issues. The top heater hose on my s6 has the hole referenced in step 8.
