Default 84 4KSQ, rebuilding / circumventing OXS counter box?

So I've ate through 2 speedo cables within a few months. I suspect something is binding within the OXS counter box. Does anyone know of a write-up for repairing these, or circumventing them altogether? If I could find a double sided female adapter to connect the upper and lower speedo cables, that would work too. A one piece cable would also work, although I don't really wanna go through the hassle of feeding it to the guage cluster, if I don't have to. Any suggestions?

Default i can't remember if the fitting on the back of the gauge cluster is the same..

but if they are, what about the cable from a later model that has the oxs counter in the cluster, and is just a one piece cable.. or is that what you're talking about, and therefore, already know

Default I did the one-piece cable conversion on my old Mk1 VW . .

It had that same O2 counter box, which just HAD to go! I found a new cable and did the whole feed-through process. Definitely easier on a Rabbit than a 4k, but you may have trouble finding a coupling to merge the two cables together.

Maybe a replacement O2 counter box would be easier? Or you could open up your existing box, tear out all the gear crap, and make your own "coupler".

Default That's a good idea...

I think I may try to disassemble the box and gut it. I figured if I could locate a coupler, I could avoid screwing with the box, but that's looking to be my best option
