Any difference on Fr./Rear 4kq Outer CV Joints?
Autohaus AZ and Bus Depot list the same part numbers for the fronts(321498099C) but the rears seem to be different on both sites(321498099A for AZ and 099B for Bus Depot). Since all the 321 joints seem to be the 90 mm boot diameter and all these PN's have the boots that go with them, what could possibly be the difference? The 099D is for cars with ABS sensors(must be the 80/90 series?)
Since I was under the assumption that the axles would swap RF to LR and LF to RR(length issues force the diagonal swaping), what could possibly cause Autohaus to charge $30 more for the fronts than the rears?
Does anyone else sell the Lobro joints cheaper than these two outfits? Torn boots are forcing replacement for at least 3 of the 4 outers and likely will do all 4 anyway.
Thanks

At least, Front & Rear CV joints on a 4kq have different size nuts..
For some reason, the REAR cv joints on a 4kq are larger than the front ones. Splined shaft and nut are bigger.
Rear bearings are also larger then the front ones.
(However, as James mentions, in a urq, both front AND rear seem to be the large size).
I also thought that all 4 drivshafts on a 4kq were slightly different lengths.
Any idea how you can tell the differetn driveshafts apart externally? I've seen some drivshafts with grooves or rings in the center, and was wondering if that was some type of 'driveshaft id code' scheme?
Very odd..!

They are different!!
Front shafts have small inner and outer CVs....
Ur-q has large inner and outer CVs.
In the back there was three types of shafts.
1984-mid'85 same as Ur-q i.e. large inner and outer joints
mid 1985- mid'87 large outer and small inner CVs
late 1987 small inner CV and outer CV had a large spline like previous but the CV cage itself was smaller to allow for more camber adjustment (the ball joint holder was also different).
Hope this helps.

Re: They are different!!
Thanks for the help. As it turns out, the rears do have bigger splines on my car. The Inner CV's on all 4 wheels are the 100 mm diameter units and the outers are all 90mm where the boot goes over it. Splines are splines and they don't interchange so diagonally swapping axles ain't gonna happen either.
There's a guy in Florida selling new outer front CV joints for the 4kq for $25 each with boot. He says their cmpany makes them themselves and they aren't reconditioned. Been in business for 14 years. Anyone heard of 'driveshaftpartsllc'(their ebay seller name)? He says they've just revcently opened up into the UK and US markets. I'm going to ask him if these are Asian-made or where they come from. Stay tuned.

For 1984 Ur-q and 4kq used the same shafts in the back, but front shafts on the 4kq are smaller....
not only the inner (at 100mm) but also the outer... front shafts remained the same on the 4kq from beginning to the end. It had to do with the front struts carrying smaller wheel bearings, hubs etc. etc.
