Argh! Carlisle strikes back. Help me get my hood open!
As some of you know, while at Carlisle, my hood cable gave way. It appeared to have broken on at the inside the cabin end. So we pulled the sheaving off if and though we could just use a pair of plyers to pull it to release the hood. Well...I tried t5o open the hood today, and it won't release all the way. The center and passenger side will release, but not the drivers side. The cable is intact, but it seems like it is just no longer connected to rhe release mechanism on the drivers side. So, now what do I do? How do I get the hood open to replace the cable? HELP!!!

You can always get to them from the bottom with a long thin steel rod...
If you have a rad shroud (bottom) you'll have to remove it... once you do that you'll be able to see it above the alternator.
Pass side is easier, not much in the way just above the A/C compressor.

Easier method...
Okay...Here's the dealio:
1) remove the upper headlight trim with a phillips screwdriver (screw is on the outside corner, above the amber sidemarker)
2) using a flashlight peer in under the hood. You should be able to find behind the edges of the grill what looks like a white nylon washer with a metal ring behind it. The cable end is likely in the middle.
3) using a long flat-bladed screwdriver, or a piece of metal you want to push the nylon washer/metal ring towards the middle of the car...so on the passenger side you push towards the driver's side, and on the driver's you push towards the passanger side.
Once you've done it once, it's REALLY easy. So much so that when my 4kq cable broke I never bothered replacing it.
If I still had the car I'd take a photo.
Wait, maybe the 90q is close enough...back in 5min.

drat!
I just realized I don't have my car here...I've got a buddies 2005 A4.
Hmmm...
I don't know if this will help...but on the left circle shows the white (or at least white on my 4kq) nylon piece, and the right circle shows the metal spring too.

I honestly think if you look you'll find it easy enough...I did my first time.

Here you go Dave...
The 90q is a wee bit different then the 4kq, but I think this will be enough for you to figure it out. Let me know how it works out for you.
