Beginners guide to body work?
Folks- Im working towards painting my 84cgt. A local shop has quoted a decent price if I sand the car down and get it as prepped as possible to paint.
I really want to learn how to prep the car and get it as done as possible so they can just spray it.
Ive google searched the web and looked at a couple book shops for books about auto re-finishing. I dont see any books for the novice. Like what grit do I start with for sandpaper.. Do you want to take to metal or just to the original primer.. REALLY basic stuff like this is where I want to start. I have some idea on this, but want to get the bottom line before I start..
Anyone have a reccomendation?
Thanks much!
Jim

Well...
Don't take it down to bare metal. The E-coat they put on Audi's from the factory is good stuff, and you can't duplicate it at home. Unless your original finish is cracked or peeling, it will make an excellent adhesion base for the new paint.
Prep is everything...so you will want to spend a lot of time doing it right. It is also awful, dirty, hateful work, which is why I don't do it.
