I have an 85 Audi 4000s sedan, I am losing power in all gears at just over 3000rpm. I can push the gas peddle all the way to the floor and cant get any power until I gear up and get the rpm back down again, and when I shut the vehicle off it keeps running for a few seconds. When the vehicle idles it seems fine! Checked for air leaks but have found nothing. Any insight would be appreciated.

...timing might be off (either ignition or cam timing), bad cap/rotor, or bad spark plugs. I would also say it could be some sort of intake or vaccume leak but if you didnt see anything then i would check the other things i listed. Hope this helps.

I would say look at the fuel pump. Sounds like it is on its way out.

I had a similar problem with my 4KQS several months ago and the obervation that finally go me on a solution was a bulging center muffler. The rear muffler rusted from the inside out, with no external leaks. The fiberglass had been pushed to the output pipe when the baffled interior metal separators rusted out. In effect plugging up the exhaust. Might give the center muffler a look and see if you have a clue there.
