Boooo...CV clicking is REAL ugly now...time for a new one. :(
I posted about this a month ago. I thought she'd hold out till spring, but nope, the clicking got REALLY bad and does it around every corner now.
I shopped around and found the rebuilt axle assemblies. A few of y'all cautioned about me ordering the rebuild, but I just couldn't justify $105 for an outer joint from GPR (even though the quality is a zillion times better) when I can get an entire axle assembly for $80 from my local Advance in 2 days. Anyway, I should have it by Friday morning and can hopefully get "my guy" at the local Meineke to put it in for $40 (like he did with my front right axle assembly). Love my baby 4kq...

I am not so sure that there is a quality difference
I doubt that there could be more than two manufacturers of the parts needed for the rebuild, so, I would assume that everyone gets theirs from the same place. There might be some difference in "care" while rebuilding.
I am having an axle for my '91 20VQ rebuilt by the local axle guy, $50.00.

Thankfully those things are pretty easy to swap out
One of my boots ripped before labor day last year, I pulled the axle out the night before then walked about a mile and a half with it down to NW Axle express to have a new boot put on (I didn't want to pay the R+R labor).
Those axles get pretty heavy after about a quarter mile...

I get rebuilt axles for $50 with a lifetime warranty...
...from the local import auto parts supplier that I use. All of my cars have rebuilt axles in them, and I haven't had a single problem out of them at all.

Check around a little
Most of the local Meineke like shops in my area will do rebuilt axel assemblies for $120-130 installed with lifetime warranty...bet you could get the same deal...and then the labor would be covered too...and you wouldn't have to order stuff...
I agree with the others, nothing wrong with rebuilds. Had both the CGTs done over 2 years ago, no problem. Had both of them done in the 90 and they were fine for 5 years...then the car got smushed...likely wold have been fine for many more years...

Not yet--she can run w/o an exhaust tho. But she can't run w/o a CV joint...failure is imminent!
I was denied coverage from the owner's insurance due to the "theft" of the car. I'm in the process of writing a nastygram to the crack head driver. Fun fun fun...
