Default Can I use filler wax to fix this???

Came out today after lunch at the Sushi place and found a giant gouge in my rear quarter panel. It is about a foot and a half long, and my fender flare is scuffed as well. Since I'm going to Florida on the coast, I want to take care of this before I move (rust is a big issue down there). Do you think gold filler wax and a polish will solve the problem?

I have a clear coat restorer that works really well, but I don't think it will blend and protect a deep gouge like this.

Maybe I can finally justify a repaint?

Default Crappy deal!

I hate parking lot dings. They really **** me off.
Maybe try one of those touch up pens, or try feathering out the scrape with 600-800 grit and apply a few coats of color match topped with a few coats of clear.
Mind you, I guess your best bet is to get the entire car resprayed if you are that concerned with rust. Good luck all the same.

Damn parking lot cretins! wax should keep it from rusting but won't blend.

Default solo, my 2¢

since i've done bodywork lately on the trans am, and have been hanging around the bodyshop alot, i can say that what i would do is: pop the dent with a paintless puller (if there is a dent); take it to bare metal, use some duraglass if it needs filled; top that with yellow polyester to smooth it out; prime it with an epoxy primer and paint it, blending it into the edge of the rear door and the edge of the trunklid.

now that i typed all that, i know what i would charge to do it, and i can imagine what the rate would be where you're at... so i'd say to do what dbf says, and maybe call for a few estimates on getting the whole thing painted. bear in mind that maaco isn't known for the quality of their work. all this and a buck will get you a cup of coffee at the local greasy spoon btw. just my opinion.

Default I wouldnt repaint the car just for that, IMHO

Hard to tell by the pic, but you could just live with it, or have a body shop just repaint that one panel. I always carry a stick of OEM touchup paint in each of my cars, they are VERY cheap from the dealer, Id recommend getting a few of them.
Your stock paint looks good, keep it original, I regret painting my 4kq, it looks decent, but I could have invested 700 bucks in a much wiser way.
I say dont repaint, get that part fixed if its possible.

Default 2nd vote for Audisport 4000 comment.

I repainted my car and wish that I hadn't needed to. But my clear coat was gone in at least 25 places, and I had a big crease in the L ft 1/4 panel. Did all that work, and I'm repainting still again soon.

Touch up paint is a Gooooood thing.

Oh yeah... in florida, there are many elderly folks. who will scrape your car or dent it in the parking lot, and just drive off. Good luck down there.

here's an example-- I've been w/ my Father-in-law who is 85 [lives in Florida], when he's done that to two other cars. Unbelievable!!!!!! I said: "Walt! What are you doing?" His reply: "What do you mean? I didn't do anything to that car."

Maybe if you stay on the base you'll be OK>

Default That looks deep.............

buffing it out may help it for a while but nothing will ever restore the paint. I would use a touch up pen. I am thinking of repainting my car as well, but only because the red paint has faded and I will do the work myself with help from my brother. We plan to strip it down to metal, and start from scratch. I got an estimate from a local shop and they would charge nearly $3,000 to take it down to metal and paint the car. Doing it myself will only cost me the supplies I need. Don't just respray the car, you are only covering up, or putting a band-aid on whats under neath.
