Default Fuel tray R&R, stainless lines.

Getting around to posting this...had a fuel leak from the swivel connection on the accumulator...everything was rusted together. I apologize for the fuzziness of some of the pics..camera is not great for macros. The white goop is JB Waterweld..waste of $$.

First I made up some lines using modified Audi 80 lines like Chris did, but I wasn't happy with them...wasn't confident of my joins to the fittings. I said "Eff Team Doorhandle" I'm figuring something else out. Went to a local hose and fitting shop and dug through his fittings until I found these:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/102793/misc_nov_06_-_may_07_139.jpg">

They are Ryco brand fittings (RY-T267-0414 for the 14mm and RY-T267-0616 for the 16mm). Got some stainless braided hose, a 12mm and 14mm banjos, connectors, ferrules and we made the hoses. Actually he did it and I helped. Had to cut the Ryco fittings obviously and silver solder the connectors.

Painted the fittings:

Fitted to the sandblasted and painted tray with the new accumulator and filter. Put teflon tape on the accumulator fittings just the help keep from siezing...not needed for sealing

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/102793/misc_nov_06_-_may_07_149.jpg">

Next problem was the tube nut that joined the hard line to the filter. The correct nut has threads 15mm long which was "just" not long enough to seal the flare in the filter. F#*%!! Already had the filter full of fuel so I didn't feel like taking the grinder to the coupling or taking it off and cutting with a hacksaw. Got a M14x1.5x25mm bolt, cut it to about 17mm long, drilled out a 5/16 hole and camfered the sealing face.

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/102793/misc_nov_06_-_may_07_150.jpg">

Even with the extra couple of mm and a 22mm head to grab...still had to reef down pretty hard to get it to seal.

Finished product mounted:

My method MAY be a bit more involved than the Earl's AN adaptors but it's done with off-the-shelf parts. Actually I was surprised, the owner of the shop I dealt with does alot of work for the offshore oil industry..has catalogues out the ying-yang but never heard of Earl's. He did put my on the a place in Sarnia, ON that sells the nylon line by the 25 foot roll though.

Default About that flare nut....

You saved about $10 (yes I've seen them go for that much) or so DIYing that nut. Bubble flares have non-threaded leads on the nuts. Looks like you have enough there though. You should see how much it would be to do a group buy of the components and build a few sets. Now that these are NLA, you'll have quite a market.

Default Easy enough to do with a drill press and a bit of patience.

Bolts are probably $0.50 each so even if you screw up a few, no big deal. Not sure what you mean by non-threaded lead. EKTA doesn't make note of any differences with the fuel tube nuts AFAIK. The first time (gold coloured 15mm nut) the nut screwed right to the face of the nut with little resistance...wasn't surprised when it pissed fuel. The extra length "squats" the bubble flare a bit into the coupling. Threads don't do the sealing at all.

Default Thanks...was a relief when it worked!

Next job is the lines at the fuel distributor..rusted at the bends by the banjos...only a matter of time...

Default It's a pain..

..in the *** sometimes...just have to be patient and sometime a bit creative...that said, I do get jealous at times seeing how clean the underside of southern US cars are...must be a dream to work on. ;-)

Default Thanks Chris...you were my inspiration though.

Wait now...maybe it was that stream of fuel spitting out at 90 psi?
