Default Great Saturday, chalk up some points for Mikey! (long)

Had the once a year "dump sale" at my work today.
Basically there were millions of books for cheap (10 cents for every dollar), and of course, no Audi books could be found.
But, after that, I plunged in and finally took care of my door handle situation. Since I had broken the one rod from the latch to the handle on the pass front, I needed another. I took a trip to the local yard a few days back and visited a good friend, a red 4 5spd. It was so cold out, and the entire car was frosted over, including the inside. Long story short, I couldnt get the latch off to get the bottom end of the latch off due to me stripping the allen screws. I thought "****, I had better find another car". So I waltz around and find the beat up ol CGT, but no dice, same deal with the allens. I then proceed up to the front office area and mention to the guy that I'll have to come back. He was like "ya need some help son?"
I thought he was joking, but no, they offered to help me get that silly rod off. I got to ride in one of the "house vehicles" to the red 4k, boy, was that an adventure. The guy who went with me couldnt get it off with normal tools, so the sent somebody else. A white van pulls up and out comes the torch!! You guessed it, the guy torched that damn latch right off the car, and the rod fell onto the ground. I go back up to the office and ask how much, "take it, you deserve it." I was sorta suprised, but the guy knows Im the Audi dude, so he just gave it to me, its a silly rod anyways.
So today I tried something different, I held the trigger part then taped it in place, making it easier to get to. So I proceed to get this done, but still notice Im doing something wrong. So I go back to my computer and look at the ETKA cd.
I notice that the handle side of the rod, the rod actually passes through the little plastic piece, it doesnt just "snap" on like i had thought. It goes through the hole then it snaps. I guess thats why I never got it right. Oh well, it paid to look at the ETKA.
After finalizing the pass front, the pass rear was next. I had put a used handle on that one, and it worked, but not well, the latch needed to be cleaned big time. So I remove the panel and latch, let it soak in Orange Clean and then reinstall, works like a dream now!
Only one left to fix is the drivers rear, which only opens from the inside. I feel I can do anything know when it comes to these silly handles (lock cylinders, handle replacement, whatever). Its been a little learning experience, and Im glad I didnt give up or wuiss out by taking it to Audi.
Thanks all for the help and encouragement, I owe ya one

Mike

Cool story!!!!
I had the same problem with my latches when removed them to paint my car. I broke the plastic clip you spoke of, so i put a little bit of Goop (glue) on the end of the rod so it wouldn't fall off. So good so far!

Default I cant find Audi Bentleys at my work...

I dont know why, we have various Saab, Volkswagen and BMW Bentley manuals, but no Audi ones.
I can check with our other warehouses (LaVergne TN, and Chambersburgh PA) to see if they carry them. I'll get back to ya on that....
