Knocking noise?

Knocking noise?
I just got home, and while I was driving, I noticed that the car had a sudden knocking noise to it. I've had it before, and it comes and goes, but it only occurs when:
-I go into a left turn
-I accelerate
And that's it. It's definitely on the front driver side. I'm thinking I may need a new axle (which means I actually need two, because the one on the right side is bad as well, but doesn't make noises).
Is my theory correct?

knocking or ticking?
go to a parking lot and make a big circle... do it in both directions.
If you turn to the right and you hear repeated clicking, you're left (driver's) side CV is probably on its way out. Just the opposite for turning left.
