Default 36V Forklift drive motor modified to run 144V or so. DC-PWM homebrew controller..

Not really a VFD as the frequency remains constant, just the pulsewidth changes. VFD's are used for AC motor control. Basically, I'm planning on using a small IC PWM motor control chip to drive a very high power (400A) IGBT transistor. I've got 4 of those one the way, so I can run them in parallel to have a capacity of up to 1600A, but that's just ludicrous and would probably burn up my batteries in a heartbeat. I'll probably just run 2 of them for 800A. That should be more than enough.

The motor:

The Batteries (lots more where these came from):

Default out of curiousity, how many batteries will you need to install...

and how much weight? Might need to beef up the rear suspension to hold it all :-P

If I use Lead Acid, 12. If I use NiCd, 100 (but much lighter total). Total weight about 300-500lbs

My goal is a minimum of 30miles. With NiCd batteries, I should get significantly more than that.
