Default Loud snap/pop sound when I rolled my window all the way up, now it is stuck down...

Driving yesterday with the pass side front window down and pushed the button to put the window all the way up. When it got to the top, there was a loud snap/pop sound. It was fine for a bit and then started to drop down. Now it is all the way down and wont move. I'm figuring the cable snapped or maybe the regulator motor is toast but I don't know why an electric motor would make a sound when it died...

So I have a full set of regulator assemblies. Does anyone know how to test one without installing it in the car?

Any BTDT's on swapping regulators?

Quick responses would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Default Pretty easy job

Remove the door panel and be prepared to cut and re solder/crimp the wires on the spare regulator. I think the regulator is held in by 3 bolts, but other than that its really easy IMHO. Very self explanatory once you pop the door panel off.

Sounds like the cable snapped.

Default It's been a while, but aren't there bolts at the base of the door and the bottom

of the window seat? All 10mm I think that have to come out to get the regulator free? And it plugs into a harness tucked in under the kick panel I think

That sucks. Try to contact Bernie, maybe he'll have a spare. You need to fix before the Audi Expo

Default And as for testing, you can just hook up the motor wires to a 12v source, the regulator should move

up or down depending on polarity. Reverse the wires to test in the other direction

Default Its been since 2004 I think

My spare regulator didnt come with a plug so I had to cut and splice the new regulator in. It was a pretty easy job I thought.
