When ever I hit mid-sized bumps on the road in my 86 4000csq, I hear this loud thump coming from the rear. Sometimes its loud enough to scare the shi*t out of me. Anybody who rides with me will notice the same thing and they usually think my suspension is bottoming out, but the bumps arent big enough. Is this a problem. It made these sounds more frequently before I replaced the struts, it dosent do it as often now.

could also be rear control arm bushings. then the noise would be coming from under the seat in the rear.
