Default My new pistons for 2144 engine

I had purchased some new pistons with rings and wrist pins for my 2144 cc 83 audi coupe at a very attractive price. I don't need them but the price was good. I don't think they are oversized - which makes me wonder if they'd have any use in a used engine anyway. I always though it had to be bored out and bigger pistons put in. Anyway the pistons have this on them. sp. 0,025 R5M and also 79,485. I see they use commas instead of decimal points in Germany.
The pistons were described as German KS pistons, 79.50mm standard. They are Karl Schmidt GMBH brand.
So - are they oversized? Could they be used in an engine with 129,000 miles? Would I just hone the cylinder walls?
Also the pistons are slightly dished inward to reduce compression. Is this how 2144 pistons look?

You got a part number(s)? I can look them up on ETKA. They may possibly be turbo motor pistons.

Default Re: They crayoned on the correct ETKA #

In marker they put 035 107 065A which is correct according to my ETKA. Some guys who want to sell stuff just look up on ETKA what the # should be -and then write that # on the box.
They're not from Audi anyway Karl Schmidt # might be 92 958 600. At least that's what's listed for Autorusaeinreg.
Another # is 012- 5083 From International Automotive Industries.

FYI, you can buy brand-new NA 2144 short blocks from VW with pistons & rings for $300 delivered to right to your door.

Oversize sizes are in 0.25mm increments, therefore yours are standard.

Really - I thought a fuel pump or even a vacumm pump for your power door locks would cost $300 from VW. I'd guess a short block would cost $2400 from VW. A short block includes crankshaft - that alone must be a fortune.

Actually I guess I should have just said "block". You get a block, pistons and rings for $300. No rods, crank, or bearings.

Problem is that it's a 2144... 2226's are about 3-4x that.

Default Re: Which merchant offers this?

Which merchant sell this set for $300 incase I need one someday? BTW I got the 5 pistons with rings and pins for $5 and maybe $7 shipping. At a dollar each they'd make nice paper weights. If they were oversized they'd probably make it into some audi engine eventually. Since I plan to keep my Coupe for another 25 years I accumlate parts.
