Ouch...Mechanics Bill, Reasonable?
Went to my trusted mechanic today. Got an estimate. He says the rear shocks are toast, left rear caliper is frozen, left rear bearings are shot, front struts arent as bad as rear, but should be replaced, and the engine mounts are bad. He wants 1300 bucks for parts and labor. If it really costs this much im gonna have to get rid of the car and get another... Oh and its a 86 4000CSQ

Get a Bentley and do it yourself.
Yeah, that's about right. It's quite a bit of work, and the labor will kill you. Parts can be had for probably less than 500, plus whatever the Bentley costs. Counting tool rental, you'll still probably come in at less than half of what the mechanic wants. If not, though, I'll trade you my Scirocco for it, it needs $15 worth of work to get back on the road.

I could probally do alittle.
I could probally install the new calipers, and bearings, but ive never seen/done any work on suspension. The car is going to need a new clutch anyways... Probally just save the car for a backup car since it still runs.

Reasonable depends...
Break it down for us. how mcuh is he charging for the shocks? A good set of Boge TurboGas will run about $275 for a set of 4. labor is listed at 7.5 hours in the labor books, but eny half-way decent tech can do it in 3-4 hours. My mechanic charged only for the labor he actually put into the project so I had 3.5 hours @ $60 per hour = $150 in labor. So the shock/strut install ran me a little over $400. I also had him put in new strut mounts and 1 piece bump stop/dust covers.
