For those who love "Gobi"..
It seems that we have a hard time distiguishing Gobi from Zermatt Silver..
(Even I *though* my car was Gobi for a while!)

(Apparently, early morning sunlight can make 'Zermat' look a look like Gobi too.)
However, when you see a Zermatt Silver car beside a Gobi (As I'm assuming the 4K is?), you can see easily see the difference..

That 4000s might be Mahogany Brown Metallic Clearcoat
When I go into paintscratch.com and pick 1985 4000s there is no gobi listed there. I'm not sure what year that 4000 is but I don't know if Gobi was around much after 84. Gobi is listed in paintscratch for a 83 4000s.

Oh..
Well, anyone got a picture of a Gobi & Zermat colours together at the same time? (Color chart, or real cars?)
Now I'm not really sure *what* the difference is!

Here's the chart....
Zermatt is not really a "true" silver. It is very much a "champagne".
Diamond silver (an Audi color through 1983, I believe) is a "true" bright silver.
Gobi is what we might refer to as a gold, but darker than many modern cars in "gold".
In the following pictures you can see my Coupe in two different lighting situations: One a bit cloudy & overcast, the other at sunset. Although I added the rear valance and wheels, there was NO paint work done to the car, yet the car looks more gold in the first, darker and more brown in the second. If I had a picture of it at this angle in direct sunlight it would look even different (much lighter...more "Zermattish").

And now the 1984 4000 color chart. I just scanned this and they are actual paint chips. To my eye, the Zermatt looks more "silver" than a car in sunlight, and the Gobi looks darker.

To complicate things, I have seen repaints that were off. I once had a Zermatt car painted for my wife, and they painted it diamond silver.....and then got angry that I wanted them to change it AND PAINT IT THE RIGHT COLOR!
Several weeks ago I looked at a CGT that had been painted a color somewhere in between diamond and Zermatt. It just wasn't "quite" right.
