Thumping while shifting-Differential bushings?
I recently replaced the trans mounts in hopes of stopping the thumping noise I get when I shift, mostly in the lower gears. Unfortunately, it didn't help. The archives list bad differential bushings as another possible cause of the noise. My local parts places never heard of differential bushings for this car, and looking under the car I am hard pressed to see where they would be. Has anybody replaced their bushings and who carries them? Are they hard to replace? Thanks for the input...

I'm not sure how the rear diff is mounted on your 4000q, but on my 5000tq there are 3 rear diff mounts...
I would also recheck your exhaust to make sure it's not the culprit. My friends 4000q had an exhaust that lost a few hangers and would bang/thump on the bottom of the car while accelerating/decelerating...
I would also check your driveshaft/driveshaft center carrier bearing for play...

diff bushings
mine were bad, on was in 2 pieces. there are 3, one on eacj side and one in the center. my center mount was fine, i only did the sides. theyre identical to the trans mounts, just get 2 more. hop under the back of the car and youll see em holding up the rear diff. and theyll thunk like hell when theyre bad
