Default What's the opinions out there about relaibility: 4000s vs Quattro vs Coupes?

I have owned two 4000's, and only admired from afar the Quattros and Coupes. My 4000S's [both] have been very dependable and fun! While necissary repairs could be expensive {!} I had a great deal of faith in my old '83, and my recently bought '84 is panning out the same way.

Default My CGT has been very reliable.

It has only failed to start once, and that was because the Hall Sensor came loos from the distributor. The "feet" on it are broken. It is now being held on with a zip tie. Anyway, I bought my CGT knowing it was a project car. Even as a project car, it has been reliable enough to use as a daily driver for the past year. now the project side of it is coming to a close, only a few small things left, so I'm hoping this reliability trend continues...

Default Coupes are extremely reliable

If your car is cared for,its extremely reliable.
I've never been stranded in 8 years. (mind you I only drive mine in the summer to keept he salt away from it)

Default Excellent cars

The 4000 is VW reliable, because it's mostly VW.
The 4kq is built like a truck, and is generally reliable with few issues.
The CGT uses the 4kq 'truck' components, but doesn't have the awd service issues.
The Ur-Q is reasonably reliable, but when they break, look out! Big $$ to fix.
All suffer from electrical component failures, injection hiccups, wheel bearings and wearables. Not worse than most other cars of the same vintage.

Default Projects

Here's what all I've done/had done:

1. Replaced spark plugs & air filter (wires, cap & rotor looked OK).
2. New struts: Boge Turbo Gas + strut mounts & bump shops/dust covers
3. New engine and tranie mounts.
4. new tires (on stock rims)
5. New front end ball joints
6. New stereo system
7. Repaired digital dash (new ilumination bulb and cleaned contacts).
8. Repaired cruise control (the actuator rod was missing)
9. Repaired misc. vacuum leaks/dirty ISV, now idles as smooth as a baby's bottom.
10 Replaced high pressure AC hose and had system converted to R134a
11. Replaced both fron wheel bearings12. Flush & fill all fluids.
13. Full body restoration including paint, bumpers and trim.14. Replaced knock sensor.

Now for what it still needs:
1. FULL tuneup: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filters, air filter.
2. Diagnose pinging problem (still pings on 93 octane with new knock sensor.
3. Engine compartment detailing including new radiator air ducts.
4. Interior detailing, including full shampoo of ALL surfaces.
5. Tinted tail lights and center section.
6. Window tint.
7. Borbet Type E rims in 15" with tires
8. 4000 quattro front sway bar
9. Relay headlights, possibly run 100 watt bulbs.

Quite the list, huh? I'll admit, I've spent Way TOO MUCH ON THIS CAR....but I've never owned a car before that I enjoy driving so much. I love driving this cr far more than my 1998 Passat 1.8T (chipped) that I had before it, or the RX-7 I have now...nothing's better than a nice CGT...

Default Ive never had much trouble

Ive owned 3 Audi's so far and Im only 20. I still have 2 of the 3 and am very pleased with how they act. Never left stranded by either car for any reason, and if something went wrong en-route, I always got home saftely.
Im glad my cars have "fallen" into my hands, so to speak.

Default Impressive and dedicated!!

More fun than a chipped passat? Really?? Of course ive never driven a passat, but it just sounds like more fun. I have to admit though, out of the cars i have driven (which isnt a whole lot) the 4kq is a blast! Whats with these old german cars!? :-) Next youll say the CGT is more fun than the Rx7...

The RX7 with the R1 package just rides too rough/stiff for a daily driver...but it sure is FAST...
