Why is it so bloody hard to get this done?

Why is it so bloody hard to get this done?

I borrowed this scan from the German site, linked below.
It seems the turn signal is on the outside, and the driving lights are on the inside, the opposite of the US-spec layout (assuming of course driving lights that fit can be found).
I have 'want ads' on the UK Audi Owner's Club site, as well as the German site (in German, no less), and nobody has offered any insight on how to achieve the driving light-in-the-bumper goal.
Ideas?

Check out the Foto Galerie . . .

...because the US bumpers have a shock absorber/bracket behind the "dummy lens". Unless you cut off those shocks, there's simply no room. Blame the Dept. of Transportation. ;-)

What about moving the turn signal . . .
. . . to the outside, as on the car from DE, and putting the driving light on the inside?
Would there be depth enough for the turn signal indicator where the reflector is now?

No way... An interesting thing we talked about once was making turnsignals from LED's
Put them in place of the reflector, then put your driving lights in place of the turnsignals. It would take lotsa LED's to do it right and you'd have to experiment with different colors to get them close enough so that the Fuzz likes 'em. I'd guess you'd have to use a combination of Yellow + amber to get close.

I still think that would work...
They sell LED's in a "Panel" form, and the wiring would be no sweat...it's just a matter of a color match. They make ambers, and those would be the one's we'd have to use.

um
the euro fogs are about 1 to 2 inches longer than the turn signals, but fit perfectly as far as height and angle are concerned. My idea was to modify the metal frame that the bumper skin attaches too (to allow the fogs to fit length wise), then get spare turn signal covers, make some sort of backing for them, and mount leds inside that housing for the turn signal (where the reflector is now. That would eliminate the crummy reflector (yeah).
For the turn signal, I think you could drill a hole for a 15mm Bayonet based bulb and use an led replacement, or use some led strips. Question - will the led provide the necessary resistance for the turn signal relay to flash correctly? My guess is no, unless they have one built into the bulb.
As soon as I go to the yard to get an experimental bumper, I will let you know how it goes.
