1986 Audi 5000 CS Wagon Manual Starting Problems
Good morning,
This is my first post here and I am really hoping to find an answer to my issue currently. I was driving my 5000 the other day and it wouldnt accelerate easily unless you really gave it some gas, it would shudder and felt like it was sucking air and not gas lol. Mind you I replaced the pump and filter just days before this. Im thinking of what would cause that to happen. Then the car died while cruising at 60mph and wouldnt start back up. Got it towed home and the car now cranks fine, sometimes catches and either instantly dies or it barely runs and I have to keep pumping gas to keep it alive. I went back to my old fuel pump and it still didnt fix the issue. My relay is perfect and I know fuel is getting to after the filter since it spurts out when or if you try to remove the filter. Is it maybe the O2 sensor, coolant temp, fuel injectors, rotary fuel system? Im really just looking for ideas thanks!!!

Hi there. If yours is turbocharged, like mine, I would check the intercooler hoses. One of mine had vibrated free. I also recommend getting your hall sensor checked/tested or finding specifications for your specific year and engine and test it yourself. If those are both good I would look into checking your fuel pressure at each fuel dizzy outlet line. Hope this helps.

Just a heads up, I believe the 5000 has a gravity feed fuel tank, just like the 4000. The pickup is well known to become plugged with rust and crap. Even if you think you have flow, you may not once the gas sloshes around a bit.
If that's not the issue, Time to start paging through the ol' CIS shop manual: https://www.cpp.edu/~bvnorum/cars/WSP-521-124-00.pdf

Another thing try to align all marks to cylinder 1 up, timing mark aligned with valve cover, also flywheel at 0 (view area is right at joint transmission and engine) distributor both marks(outside body and where rotor sits) aligned (matched) and aligned to timing mark .Hope this makes sense and works.before you do all this check your spark at spark plug and coil, if no spark then here is your issue. CISII system (86-91), watch youtube videos either VW, mercedes, porsche or audi, all are the same principle.
