Default 86 5kcstq feels like it's running on 2-3 cylinders...

Since the biblical rains of a week and a half ago, the 'ol 86 has not been able to run. All-clear 4444 code from ecu. New dist cap and rotor, new ignition wires, pulled plugs, cleaned and dried them, fuel system is working fine. When I start the car at first, fires up, although rough, and will idle real rough at about 150-200 rpm. Would a bad coil that is unable to fire as frequently as pulsed by the ecu act like this? Other thoughts. PLEASE!!!

TIA,
Jim

Perhaps a timing light on the coil to cap lead will let you know if the coil is skipping a beat?

What about a partially stuck decel valve or something like that? Some kind of limited vac leak?

Default Thx boxerfan-no vac leaks. Could be partially stuck decel valve, but poor running started...

after car sat overnight in rain and wind

Default Weather could be coincidental. I've been tagged by multiple failures

that occurred out of the blue at the same instance in time. Once you have covered all you can think of that is weather related go back to what you last tinkered with. That's what I do. Once you are sure of all that then move on to other ideas. Sorry I can't think of anything else right now. Let me chew on it.

Default How are the wires? Even if they look new, sometimes they go bad...

Been there, done that:

("Oh, it can't be the wires, doggone things are only 2 years old")

Then after a few days of putzing around with other stuff, tried replacing the wires and voila! Car is happy again.

Good luck and let us know what you find...

Default Check to see if water might have gotten

into the ECU. Since this event occured after a heavy rain, it has been know that water can get into the ECU from the windshield.
