Default About a Turbo-- (audijim esp)

I just bought this 89 100 about 3 or 4 months ago for $950, and have since put about another 1500-2k into it (all diy). When I got it, it wouldn't idle right, had an exhaust leak, and the alternator made a terrible noise. I got all that fixed, and now I'm having a power/ vibe problem, and the more I fix and trouble shoot I'm thinking it might have a worn or spun bearing (that's what the front end sounds like). Anyway, the reason for this post is if, in fact, it is a bearing (I'll take it to the local import shop to be sure), I want to try to swap over to turbo. I saw on an earlier post that you've got a good donor, Jim, and I'm originally from NE Ohio (in the military in GA now) so I could get it fairly easily when I'm home.
Anyone have any btdt on a NA to turbo?
This is all just thinking, but I'm planning for the worst <:{

that all depends...His CGT has a lower CR piston set in it. The '89 100, with its 10:1 NF code motor, won't like having a turbo attached to it ;-)

BTW, bad PS pumps sound aweful...Like a bad bearing. You wouldn't hear a bad internal engine bearing outside unless its too late, and a piston decides to say hello from the side of the block.

Default cuatrokoop's right the power steering pumps in these cars always **** and moan...

...just needs a rebuild. Had mine done on my 88 5kqt for $70 whisper queit now. I don't know if I'd do the engine swap anyway. There are plenty of nice turbo 5000's and 200's out there with mods for sale. Less headaches, less of course you like building up a car, then go for it.

Two things:
Make sure it's not your PS pump
Make sure your alternator top bolt/s is mounted securely

Spun bearings usually cause oil pressure lights.

Default I've got 2 rebuilt pumps if you're interested.

Just pulled them from my parts cars and rebuilt them.

Default thanks!!

Hey, the bra is covering for the fact that the bumper rubber lining is flaking pretty bad. There are nooo yards down here with 44 cars and it was way cheaper that shipping one in. And that is a really bad picture, but I kinda like the way it looks (kinda 80s)- and everyone's got the euro lights look. But thanks for the comment!

Default Thanks shoryq

I went out and with it running, pushed on the back of the alt and that noise went away, so I'll tighten it down. Thanks sq! I just rebuilt the thing, and I knew the sound was coming from down in that area (the bearing noise). That still doesn't solve my sputter/vibe problem, but I guess I'll keep troubleshootin. BTW, could an exhaust leak itself cause any driveability problems, cause I know on my old vw rabbit, whenever it leaked, it caused a backpressure problem?
Actually, I think I was kinda hopin to need an eng swap so I could go turbo (this car is great to drive, it's just a dog to get going). Now I have to talk my wife into letting me do it anyway!

Default Email me and I'll shoot you a price.

I'll also need your address so I can just throw shipping in as well.
