Ac control head frustration

Ac control head frustration
According to the bentley, the head unit is outputting to all vents when I go to a/c. it should only go to center vents. When i replaced it with one from the yard it gave the same wrong diagnostic. Both test wrong with current checks also. Did I get a broken one from the yard or is the programmer influencing the outcome of the head's output? Very frustrated.

Re: Ac control head frustration
From what I hear, the AC programmers are notorious for dying...
I wouldn't be suprised if that is the culprit...
I have never had the pleasure of working on the AC/heater system yet, so I don't have any BTDT for you...
BTW, what exactly is your problem with the AC system and what fault code are you getting? I wasn't sure from your post...
Good luck.

control head diagnostic
If you hold the outside temp button and hit the off button you get the control head codes and any fault codes it may hold. (87.86 in bentley) If you go to 07 (by hitting the warm button) and then hit cold it gives you a read out of the control head's output. It has a dash for
A: radiator cooling fan on
B: a/c compressor on
C: temp flaps to cooler position
D: floor vents open
E: bilevel (center and floor)
F: center vents
G: a/c recirculation door closed
h: temp toward warmer
When i turn the a/c to auto and low it should read A,B,C,G,F but instead it reads A,B,C,D,E,F,G which means that the programmer is getting multiple signals and goes into defualt mode. Interesting to note: when i turn it to full warm the B dash will also come on and i can feel the engine lose some power. I have been driving with the compressor running in the winter time

Re: control head diagnostic
according to bentley, before you diagnose the programmer you should make sure the head is outputting the right signals. Did I just get a broken head from the yard? ARGH!

compressor will be on as long as external temp is above 33-35F.
So, even at full warm, it should be running in AUTO, BILEVEL and DEFROST.
Pretty stupid design if you ask me. It is a Delco product afterall.
