Default Alternator Fix Question

Hi All. I need some help re: an alternator fix. My car died and I'm pretty sure it is the alternator as the battery light and battery volt light went on as it lost power. Now, there is just a click. I'm thinking of trying to replace the alternator myself, and I'm trying to get an idea of how difficult it is. I've never really worked on cars, except for installing stereos and replacing the audi door handles. Does anyone have any advice? I have a hayes manual. Also, about how much do you think it would cost if I had it done at a mechanic. I'm lucky enough to live a few miles from 2bennett.

Thanks for your advice.

Default Re: Alternator Fix Question

Before you replace the alternator, check the small blue (exciter) wire that runs out of the alternator. Sometimes the insulation wears off and it shorts out to the frame.
