ATTN birdman and stephen ankney
i was told by a friend of mine here in wv to talk to you two about a true 3 inch flange for the downpipe setup i want to do. i was told you guys know what you are doing and could possibly help me find the flange i need. i asked him but he didnt know exactly how it fits i thought the bolt holes had to line up to fit it to the turbo. my friend and i measured it and we got a max of 2 and 1\4 we could cut into the flange to make a new setup then step out to 3 inch piping within 3 inches or less. we figured this was the best we could do given it has to bolt to the turbo and make better flow. we were going to start with a stock sized flange and make the hole out to 2 and 1\4 inches insert pipe a in there and weld then come out 2 to 3 inches enlarge to 3 inch and be done with that part. is this a bad idea\setup? it would flow more right? any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciatted.
thanks

You can buy the flanges already made... I'll see if I can find the link I had.
Oh.... exhaust calcs... I'll have a look at that today... Might just be a simple matter of a target temp you want to stay within. the whole set up will dictate the exhaust temps to a large extent. I'll see what I can come up with.

TJM Motorsport in NH used to sell stainless 3" K-24/6 series flanges you could use. This was almost 2 years ago. Call them.
You could also make your own. Simply mock up the stock flange with a nice flat chunk of metal and drill your 3" outlet and stud holes. Should be easy finding a nice thick piece of mild steel, etc.
Otherwise the tapered idea will work ok. Beats the stock setup anyday.
Here's a pic of the 3" downpipe sitting on my work bench. Sorry it's blurry...I'm in a hurry.

the best flang I've seen was the kkk flange welded to a header reducer
2 1/4 to 3 inches in about 3-4 inches. My understanding is this is better than just welding the flange to a 3" pipe because it reduces turbulance. summitracing.com sells them with an 02 sensor already welded in it.
good luck,
Jon
